Call for papers
Management, leadership and the related competences are in transition at the same time as the operational logic of work communities and industries is changing. In addition to rational thinking, complex and systemic understanding and the ability to make solutions that support reforms in a constantly changing operating environment are needed. This means, for example, the ability to strengthen leadership skills in virtual, hybrid and diverse work communities, renew ways of thinking in strategy work, increase foresight skills and the productivity and well-being of the work community, strengthen the renewal of ways of thinking and operating culture, and develop operating models for self-directed organizations and shared leadership. Digital leadership is the latest leadership solutions that can be used to serve those being managed effectively regardless of place and time.
TiP2025 Conference will address issues related to renewing working life, future entrepreneurship, and digital leadership to discuss latest trends and research and offer the opportunity to strengthen networks between practitioners and academia interested in these themes. There will be both keynote speeches by leading experts, highlighting the conference themes and enabling joint reflective discussions, and theme-based workshops, highlighting topical management, leadership and entrepreneurship research in paper presentations. The conference is open to researchers, practitioners and interested public as well.
The conference will be held on Thursday 20th of March 2025, simultaneously in Mikkeli and online.
The conference is organised by the South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences Xamk.
Themes and topics
TiP2025 Conference will be organised around the following themes and topics:
Renewing working life
- Internationalised and diversified organisations, for example, self-managed teams, and diversity as an asset in the working community.
- Manifold ways of doing work, for example remote and hybrid work and workers’ well-being in digital work.
- Continuous learning in the working life, for example identification of future competences and development needs, flexible lifelong learning solutions and micro learning.
Future entrepreneurship
- Student entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship education, for example the development of entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship as a learning environment, and the development of regional vitality.
- Support for start-up companies and entrepreneurs (start-up activities), for example growing into an entrepreneur, mentoring to support the development of an entrepreneur, and tools for a new entrepreneur.
- Innovation activities, for example new business models, supporting business renewal and ability to change, new methods for business development, and agile learning solutions.
Digital leadership
- Remote and hybrid leadership, for example the change in leadership of expert work, digital transformation, and digital management of strategies.
- Digital leadership tools, for example artificial intelligence in leadership, the use of forecasting methods and data analytics in management, as well as digital coaching to help the leader.
- Leadership development, for example the demands of transformative change and complex operating environments, more capable leadership of competences, and personal growth of the leader.
Authors are encouraged to submit their latest research, case studies, and technological advancements aligned with the conference theme and topics.

Practicalities
- Conference is free of charge. Participants pay for their own lunches and conference dinner.
- Registration through conference webpage: www.theoryinpractice.fi
- The mode of participation (in person or virtual) is asked when registering.
- The work presented at the conference can be a scientific article, a practical expert article or a poster.
- The length of a proposal is 250-400 words. Recommended structure: title of paper, introduction, objectives, methods, results, and conclusion.
- Length of a scientific article is 20 000-30 000 characters without spaces
- Length of a practical expert article is 10 000–15 000 characters without spaces
- The poster is informative and includes images and text.
- Use template layouts with the final article, which will be sent to the authors by email.
- Submitted papers should be new, i.e., not submitted for review, accepted for publication, or already published elsewhere.
- Proposals can be written, and articles or posters written and presented either in English, Finnish or Swedish. Use Word or RTF format.
- After receiving the article/poster, submissions will be scheduled for presentation in the conference programme in thematic sessions (either in person or virtually).
- Proposals will be compiled on the website before the conference.
- Articles presented at the Conference will be published in Conference Proceedings with an ISBN and will be classified as Category D in the Ministry of Education and Culture's publication data collection.

South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences Xamk, Mikkeli Campus. The conference will start in Mikpoli Auditorium (Mikpoli Building, Ratsurinkuja, 50100 Mikkeli)

Virtual attendance
There is an option to present papers by attending the conference virtually (online). Details will be sent close to the conference date. Virtual participants will have access to the keynotes and virtual paper sessions.
